Frequently Asked Questions
Q.How many Hanja are in the dictionary?
A.1,800+ characters centered on the Korean Ministry of Education's basic Hanja list plus the Korean Language Society grades 8→3 and frequent grade-2/1 entries. Covers 95%+ of Hanja in modern news, legal, and academic texts.
Q.What about Hanja with multiple readings?
A.We show the primary reading only. If a character has alternatives, an "alt" badge appears and hovering reveals all readings. Context-based disambiguation is not supported — consult the source for legal or poetic translation.
Q.How do I read the grade badges?
A.Higher numbers = easier. Grade 8 (50 chars) is lower elementary, grade 3 (1,800) covers all basic-use Hanja, grade 1 is expert-level. Colors go green (easy) → red (hard) so you can spot difficulty at a glance.
Q.Can I paste Ruby HTML into Tistory / Naver Blog / WordPress?
A.Yes. Use the HTML edit mode — <ruby> and <rt> tags render natively on Tistory, WordPress, Naver Blog, and Medium. Rich-text mode may strip them, so switch to HTML source before pasting.
Q.What about 'dueumbopchik' (initial-consonant rule)?
A.For the MVP we show the canonical medial reading (e.g., 려 not 여). Both native speakers and learners benefit from seeing the 'true' reading. Future versions may auto-apply the initial-consonant rule when the character opens a word.
Q.A Hanja came up as "unknown." Can I request it?
A.Yes. Email us (Contact link in footer) and we'll prioritize it. Names and place-name Hanja outside the standard 1,800 list are welcome.
Q.Does this convert to Simplified or Japanese Shinjitai?
A.The MVP focuses on Korean-style Traditional Hanja. Cross-variant conversion (Simplified Chinese, Japanese Shinjitai) is on the roadmap.
Q.Is my text sent to a server?
A.No. All processing happens in your browser. Input text, conversion output, and downloads never leave your device — safe for private or proprietary content.
